The Entertainment Industry Under Scrutiny:
The film and television industry in China has faced more stringent censorship compared to literature. The State Administration of Radio, Film, and Television, which oversees China’s media, has issued guidelines that often deem LGBT content as “abnormal sexual behaviors,” leading to the exclusion or alteration of such content in movies and TV shows.
In the past three years, there have been instances of popular shows being pulled off the air or edited to remove LGBT characters or themes, reflecting the government’s cautious approach towards mainstream portrayals of LGBT identities.

The Online Realm: A Mixed Picture:
In the digital space, the situation is somewhat more nuanced. Social media platforms and online streaming services have occasionally provided a haven for LGBT representation, with a number of web series and online literature exploring LGBT themes gaining popularity. The Cyberspace Administration of China has periodically cracked down on what it perceives as “vulgar” content, which can include LGBT themes. I spent two years in Korea, 8/72-8/73, as a Peace Corps volunteer. The Korean people, as a whole, were all super good-looking. I served as as an English TESOL teacher in a small provincial village. With no running water except for a pump in the courtyard, we had to go down to the local bathhouse. Unlike those catering to gay men here in the States, we actually went there to get clean. The locals went once a week. And on Market Day, which happened ever 10 days, don’t even THINK about going. Crowded standing room only! To take a bath, you first washed yourself, including shampooing and shaving, while sitting on a very small, maybe one-inch high, with just enough room for your butt, little plastic block. Once clean, and rinsed off, you climbed into the communal tub and soaked fir a time. My village had natural hot springs, and soaking was pure heaven. Anyway, with all the men being nude, there was a wide range of ages and body types to look at. And while there was no hanky-panky going on, with everyone being in the open, I was still able to observe and enjoy the view, without getting a hard-on. I E., No Sex.
